Spirits of the Land: Where did they go?
We build massive towers and assume we have silenced the earth. We view our sprawling cities as proof that we have tamed the wilderness. We believe that asphalt and concrete act as a barrier that seals away the ancient world. This is a foolish assumption. The spirits of the land did not vanish when the construction crews arrived. They merely retreated into the shadows cast by our own developments. The geography holds a memory that is stronger than any foundation we pour.
An Invisible Coexistence
We inhabit the same physical space as these entities but we occupy different frequencies of existence. We share our apartments and our offices with the invisible memories of the terrain. The modern human life is layered directly on top of the supernatural world. We move through their space just as they move through ours. We are blind to the supernatural neighbours that crowd our streets.
The spirits roam around the building and land space with absolute freedom. They drift through steel beams and glass walls as if they were mist. The physical boundaries that define our lives mean nothing to them. A spirit might follow the path of an ancient deer trail that now cuts directly through a corporate boardroom. The land space surrounding our structures is never truly empty. It is a busy highway for entities that were here long before the architects drew their blueprints.
Influence on Daily Life
The occupants of these spaces are deeply affected by this invisible proximity. The energy of the spirit bleeds into the daily life of the human resident. A person might suffer from unexplained health issues or find their sleep disturbed by a restless presence. Relationships can suddenly become volatile and personal luck may seem to vanish without cause. This influence is not always negative. There are many benevolent spirits with good vibrations. A home built on a site with a peaceful guardian spirit can bring prosperity and deep rest to its inhabitants. The relationship is symbiotic and depends entirely on the nature of the entity we live with.
Urban residents often report a strange sense of unease while walking through a crowded district at night. We instinctively know that our artificial world is fragile. We sense that we are being watched by something that does not appear on security cameras. We are never truly alone in our concrete hives. The spirits are waiting patiently watching on us!
